3 Concerts in the Großer Saal
Room plan in 8 categories (Großer Saal)
At just 29 years old, Klaus Mäkelä is not only Music Director Designate of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, but also Chief Conductor of the Oslo Philharmonic and the Orchestre de Paris as well as Chief Conductor Designate of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. With the latter three orchestras, the artist, to whom the Wiener Konzerthaus has already dedicated a portrait series in 2021/22, is creating a cycle that showcases his qualities as a prudent orchestral conductor with clear programmatic and interpretative ideas: the concert with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and top violinist Janine Jansen combines classical music and modern classicism. Mäkelä presents tone poems by Strauss and Sibelius, written around 1890 by the two composers, who were almost the same age, with the Oslo Philharmonic. Even more compact is the concluding, voluptuous Rachmaninoff program with the Orchestre de Paris and the expressive pianist Anna Vinnitskaya.
