4 Konzerte im Großen Saal
One organ, an almost infinite variety of sounds - the Rieger organ of the Vienna Konzerthaus has always inspired soloists to flights of fancy. One of them provides a picturesque start to the cycle: Cameron Carpenter, the first organist ever nominated for a Grammy, interprets Mussorgsky's »Pictures at an Exhibition«. Bruckner expert Hansjörg Albrecht creates true sound cathedrals in honor of the Austrian organ grandmaster with an arrangement of the »Romantic«. The cycle debutants Zuzana Ferjenčíková and Davide Mariano draw on the musical riches of the 19th and 20th centuries: they conjure magnificent soundscapes from orchestral works by Beethoven, Rachmaninoff and Saint-Saëns, among others, on the Queen of Instruments. It goes without saying that one of the highest arts, improvisation, must not be missing from such a rush of sound: Zuzana Ferjenčíková, the first woman to win the International Improvisation Competition in Haarlem, will give a sample of this skill.
