Das STANDARD-Konzerthaus-Abo
20 concerts, 8 decisions, 1 subscription
»We celebrate diversity«, is how Matthias Naske outlines the basic
orientation of the Wiener Konzerthaus, which he directs. Diversity,
openness, Plurality: The STANDARD subscription is also committed to this
diversity between classical, modern, jazz and world music.
For example, there is Ibrahim Maalouf, the French-Lebanese trumpeter, with his oriental-influenced, emotionally deep jazz mixture. There's U.S. violinist Hilary Hahn, interpreting Brahms with pianist Andreas Haefliger. The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain on the other hand offers contrasts without end: under the motto »One plucking thing after another«, anything is possible between Pink Panther, »Somethin' Stupid« and Prokofiev. The Kronos Quartet, celebrating its 50th anniversary, stands for an aesthetic that extends far beyond the classical-romantic quartet repertoire. Of course, the subscription also offers classics. The Accademia Bizantina celebrates baroque pieces by Antonio Vivaldi, violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja & Friends give a staged concert across music history. And in the symphonic field? Well-established names will be present there as well: The Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra plays Richard Strauss' »Also sprach Zarathustra« and accompanies the wonderful baritone Christian Gerhaher in Gustav Mahler's Rückert Lieder. Also part of the lineup are concerts by the Vienna Philharmonic, Vienna Symphony and Vienna RSO. Especially worth listening to is the legendary Argentine pianist Martha Argerich. Together with Lilya Zilberstein, Anton Gerzenberg and Daniel Gerzenberg, she will be part of a remarkable keyboard quartet dedicated to Brahms, Schumann and Smetana. If you want to be ensnared by melancholy in sound, don't miss Mariza, the Portuguese fado singer. Fado? That is a kind of Portuguese blues, in a sense that sad thought that is sung about.
