The Abduction from the Seraglio

The Angelika Prokopp Summer Academy of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, in cooperation with the Master's Program in Opera of the MUK (Musik und Kunst Privatuniversität der Stadt Wien), presents a semi-concert version of W. A. Mozart's »The Abduction from the Seraglio« as an opera project for the 2022 season.

This summer academy has been in existence for over fifteen years and aims to promote young orchestral talent. It is held as a chamber music course and audition training over three weeks during the Salzburg Festival, and since 2016 an ensemble has been assembled each year to produce a selected Mozart opera. This consists of voice students from Austrian universities, graduates of the Summer Academy and a conductor. All participants are selected through auditions.

The semi-concertante staging and the strong proximity on the same level of instrumentalists and singers promotes the contact and the chamber-musical interaction of all participants.

You can see an impression of last year's performance of »Don Giovanni« here.
