Pianistic masterpieces and rarities

Leif Ove Andsnes has been called one of the »most gifted musicians of his generation« by the press: Awards such as the Instrumentalist Award of the Royal Philharmonic Society and an honorary doctorate from the Juilliard School speak for themselves. Engagements take the Norwegian-born musician around the globe - and now he is making another stop in Vienna. In his recital, Andsnes, who has already completed an in-depth »Beethoven Journey«, will highlight the Bonn composer's penultimate sonata. The late classical masterpiece is joined by Janáček's Sonata 1. X. 1905 »From the Street«, one of the definitive piano works of the turn of the century. On the other hand, Dvořák's »Poetische Stimmungsbilder« op. 85, about which the composer wrote: »Each piece will have a title and is intended to express something, that is, to a certain extent program music. (...) It will be a pity, however, that probably few pianists will have so much courage to play them all one after the other (...), but only then can the listener get the right idea of what I was thinking about, for this time I am not only an absolute musician, but a poet.«
