Beautiful as in heaven
Magnificent baroque polychoral music - it was not only in Venice and Rome, but also in Salzburg. The consecrated new cathedral includes several marble galleries on which musicians sang and played music during ceremonial performances. A Pinzgau historian felt that the music he heard there »kundt es im Himmel nit scheener oder lustiger sein«. In 1701, the foundation of the Order of the Knights of Rupert was solemnly celebrated there. Most likely for this occasion, the archbishop's Kapellmeister Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber composed his opulent »Missa Bruxellensis«, named after its source in Brussels. Although this mass has fewer voices than the better-known »Missa Salisburgensis«, it is distinguished by a particularly virtuosic use of trumpets.
