Longing once and today
One is at home as a lieder singer in the concert halls of Europe, Southeast Asia and North America, the other is a jazz pianist and composer and inspires with his lyrical, intimate sound language. When Ian Bostridge and Brad Mehldau met in 2015, they quickly discovered common ground, such as their enthusiasm for the lieder of Robert Schumann. Their friendship was also to connect the artists professionally. Thus, the U.S. keyboard artist wrote the cycle »The Folly of Desire« for the versatile British tenor. The ten songs on texts by poets such as Shakespeare, Brecht and Goethe are a commentary on Schumann's »Dichterliebe« - one of the most important song cycles of the Romantic period. Bostridge and Mehldau are now giving a guest performance of both works at the Vienna Konzerthaus.
