Wind chimes

In 1738, J. Ph. Eisel wrote about the hautboy, the baroque oboe: »It is used in the field, at the opera, in merry companies and also in churches.« This had been developed in the second half of the 17th century at the court of the Sun King Louis XIV. Members of the Hotteterre and Philidor families, who had long been court musicians, made a special contribution to the instrument, which finally began its triumphal march in Europe in the first half of the 18th century. Musicians such as Telemann, Vivaldi, Zelenka and Fasch composed sonatas and (double) concertos for it. The Friday Academy and Katharina Suske have put together a program of works written in Germany, Italy and Bohemia. An opportunity to listen to »wind plays« that are rarely heard!
