Filarmonica della Scala: Stravinsky, Rachmaninoff, Prokofiev
Igor Stravinsky characterized his Chant funèbre, composed in 1908, as one of his best works. After its premiere, the score was considered lost until it was rediscovered a few years ago - since 2016, the work has now found its way onto concert stages. The 12-minute orchestral piece kicks off one of Filarmonica della Scala's rare guest performances. Principal conductor Riccardo Chailly leads the orchestra of his native Milan not only through late-Romantic soundscapes of Rachmaninoff's Third Piano Concerto - Mao Fujita, winner of the silver medal at the 2019 International Tchaikovsky Competition, makes his debut at the piano - but also through Prokofiev's last symphony, which he composed in the last two years of his life.
