In a new light

»It takes hours to understand a piano, because each has its own personality, and we play together«, Grigory Sokolov once observed about piano playing. What exactly constitutes the pianist's secret is hard to pin down: For many, Sokolov, born in 1950, is one of the few »pianists of the century«; with his original interpretations, he illuminates each work in a completely new way - he elicits shades from the compositions he chooses that have not been heard before. He immerses himself in his programs for a long time, and so with each program he chooses anew exactly what he will focus on next: Whether Prokofiev, Rameau or Schumann - the concert experience is always a surprise, and each work also has its own »personality« in Grigory Sokolov's reading.
