Presented by Wiener Konzerthausgesellschaft

»Stay a while! You are so beautiful!«

What would the Romantic art song be without the œuvre of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe? The song leader Franz Schubert alone set more than 60 of the poet's poems to music, some of them even several times. Goethe is still one of, if not the most popular poet in the history of German literature. Thanks to their natural singability, his texts and poems form an ideal template for musical settings. Moreover, with love, death, loneliness or descriptions of nature, they deal with romantic themes par excellence. Under the motto »Love & Loss«, tenor Christoph Prégardien, pianist Julius Drake and actor Udo Samel will create a musical-literary evening dedicated entirely to Goethe. In addition to selected texts, songs by composers such as Ludwig van Beethoven, Franz Schubert and Hugo Wolf can be experienced.
