Heavenly lengths
Rudolf Buchbinder's piano playing combines tradition and innovation, faithfulness to the original and freedom, as well as authenticity and cosmopolitanism: for more than sixty years, the pianist has led his audience through the milestones of the piano literature. His interpretation of Beethoven's sonatas, in particular, is considered to set the standard: at the 2023/24 »Klavier im Großen Saal« cycle stop, Rudolf Buchbinder will perform one of Beethoven's most symphonic sonatas, the »Waldstein Sonata«, composed in 1803/04. The great gesture of the work is expressed, among other things, in its length: The final movement, with no less than 543 measures, is one of the longest finales in the sonata oeuvre of the Bonn master.
