Generation change
Vivi Vassileva, multiple prize-winner and "Great Talent" of the Vienna Konzerthaus, follows in Martin Grubinger's footsteps and opens the "Percussive Planet" cycle with the virtuoso percussion concerto that the then already 80-year-old Friedrich Cerha wrote in the mid-2000s for the star percussionist, who was only 25 at the time. Generational changes also characterize the rest of the program of the opening concert of the "RSO Vienna" cycle in the 2023/24 season: it begins with the prize-winning work "Blue Bongo Fever Dream" of the composition competition named after the legendary jazz pianist and composer Carla Bley. Finally, the main work of the evening is the ballet "Le Sacre du printemps", with which Igor Stravinsky finally steps out of the world of his teacher Rimsky-Korsakov and becomes a co-founder of international modernism.
