Blechacz & Chopin
»My piano is my second self«, wrote Chopin as an expression of the highest artistic individuality. Beethoven would probably have agreed with him, had it been possible for him to do so. Rafał Blechacz, winner of the 2005 Chopin Competition, lets both composers have their say in his recital: He juxtaposes Beethoven's early Sonata in C minor, Op. 10/1, with Chopin's Third Sonata in B minor, Op. 58: a »concerto without orchestra« that Blechacz's compatriot Chopin left behind as one of the few testimonies to the art of the sonata. Szymanowski's Variations in B-flat minor, op. 3, take us to the beginning of the 20th century and form the chronological conclusion of a piano recital from Bach to the modern era.
