Latin Classics

In the first concert of their new format "Prime Time international", the Vienna Chamber Orchestra and its long-time Principal Guest Conductor Joji Hattori present Nathalie Peña-Comas, a soloist who has won prestigious prizes at international vocal competitions. In 2017, the Santo Domingo-born and Vienna-trained soprano also released the album "Alta Gracia", which was nominated for the Latin Grammy for Best Classical Album. (An included "Ave Maria" by her compatriot Manuel Tejada was also nominated for the Latin Grammy for Best Classical Contemporary Composition). Nathalie Peña-Comas sings not dissimilar repertoire on this evening: songs by the Catalan composer Xavier Montsalvatge influenced by the music of the Antilles, as well as hits from zarzuelas by Ruperto Chapí y Lorente, José Serrano and Federico Moreno Torroba, which stars like the legendary diva Montserrat Caballé have also made famous in our country.
