The classical triad as a network
Both Haydn and Mozart left behind so-called »Prussian Quartets« - string quartets that they dedicated to the Prussian King Frederick William II, an enthusiastic cellist. Both series of works are represented in this concert by Quatuor Mosaïques, which specializes in the original sound of Viennese classical music and whose programme almost has the character of a social network analysis: Haydn with the fifth of his »Prussian Quartets« from 1787, Mozart with the third of his, which is in the same key of F major and only three years younger. In addition, there is one of the early string quartets op. 18, which Beethoven wrote in 1799 for Prince Franz Joseph Maximilian von Lobkowitz, to whom Haydn in turn dedicated his last two completed string quartets in the same year.
