Mahler's swan song
»Probably the most beautiful swan song in music history« - this is how Franz Welser-Möst describes the end of Gustav Mahler's Ninth Symphony. It is music of remembrance and farewell: to the world, to art, to life and not least to music. The posthumous premiere of this monumental work took place in June 1912 with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Bruno Walter. When Mahler's mystical Ninth is performed for the 31st time at the Wiener Konzerthaus in February 2024, it will be interpreted by the same orchestra. Franz Welser-Möst, the most successful Austrian conductor since Herbert von Karajan, will be on the podium.
