High, higher, high mass
It »is the Mont Blanc of church music - you can't get any higher in Western music«, is how Franz Liszt characterised Johann Sebastian Bach's Mass in B minor. If you approach this undisputed musical masterpiece with the Collegium Vocale Gent and the exquisite soloist ensemble under the direction of its initiator Philippe Herreweghe, guarantors of Bach interpretations of the highest quality, you can expect an uplifting experience. Bach worked on the Mass in B minor, his last great vocal work, for almost half a lifetime. The Sanctus was composed as early as 1724, followed by a Kyrie and Gloria for the Dresden court in 1733. In 1748 and 1749, Bach combined the individual movements into one mass and completed the missing parts. Today, the »High Mass« is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
