Vienna greets Dallas!
»For me, this piece is primarily about Anne-Sophie Mutter and about the violin as a masterpiece of the art of violin making. [...] Ultimately, this great artist herself became my inspiration and driving force«, says celebrated (film) composer John Williams about his second violin concerto. The colorful and dazzling work is dedicated to Anne-Sophie Mutter, with whom he has a close artistic friendship, and was premiered at Tanglewood in 2021. Now it will be heard for the first time at the Vienna Konzerthaus in a guest performance by the Dallas Symphony under principal conductor Fabio Luisi. The celebrated dedicatee will serve as soloist. Also on the program are a composition by Puerto Rican Angélica Negrón, who is the Texas orchestra's composer in residence, and Tchaikovsky's »Pathétique«, about which the composer said: »I [...] consider it the best, but especially the most 'sincere' of all my works.«
