Delicate grotesque
»I think it's worth listening to, speaking and playing this piece as often as possible [...]. It is a life-fulfilling piece, a dreaming piece«, says Patricia Kopatchinskaja about Arnold Schönberg's »Pierrot lunaire«. Schönberg wanted a delicate yet grotesque interpretation for his 1912 melodrama, which was described by Igor Stravinsky as the »solar plexus of modernism«. Patricia Kopatchinskaja's rousing »Pierrot« caused a storm of enthusiasm in Germany and the USA, among other places. No wonder, since she has felt like a Pierrot her whole life, as she revealed in an interview. In June, Patricia Kopatchinskaja can be seen alongside members of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and pianist Joonas Ahonen in her double role as violinist and narrator as part of her portrait series.
