Arnold Schoenberg Choir

The Arnold Schoenberg Choir has performed nearly 100 concerts in the Wiener Konzerthaus since 1973. And in the 2019/20 season, they will have their very own entire special portrait series, dedicated to an ensemble that has played a central role in musical life in Vienna and beyond for many decades and which was so closely associated with Nikolaus Harnoncourt, an honorary member of the Wiener Konzerthaus, until his death three years ago. Under the direction of its founder, Erwin Ortner, the choir will perform four concerts in the Mozart Hall, each of which will be dedicated to a key composer of the romantic choral repertoire – Schubert, Mendelssohn, Bruckner and Brahms. On the programme are largely secular, but also religious pieces, mostly a cappella, but also with instrumental accompaniment, showcasing a representative cross-section of choral music in the Romantic era, starting with Schubert’s Mass In E-flat major.
