Iveta Apkalna

Combining both a real beauty of sound and a joy in experimentation, the Latvian-born organ virtuoso, Iveta Apkalna, places the »queen of instruments« centre stage. The 43-year-old, who was named ECHO Klassik’s »Instrumentalist of the Year« in 2005, will explore the most exquisite nuances of the famous Rieger organ of the Wiener Konzerthaus, conjuring up sounds from as far back as the Baroque — and even the Middle Ages — right through to the modern and contemporary era. Apkalna is currently one of the sought-after artists in her field. She will show off the organ’s many different facets as a solo instrument, both in a solo recital and in concert with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra where she will perform works including Eötvös’»Multiversum«, together with Martin Grubinger and his Percussive Planet Ensemble, and a duo evening with baritone, Thomas E. Bauer.
