The Art of Bolero

In his mid-forties, Puerto Rican-born Miguel Zenón is now considered one of the most innovative and influential saxophonists of his generation, as well as a unique composer and program planner who focuses entirely on perfecting the interplay of Latin American folklore and jazz. He has performed at the Wiener Konzerthaus three times as a member of the legendary SFJAZZ Collective, and also made guest appearances here more than a decade ago with his own quartet, which includes Venezuelan pianist Luis Perdomo. Perdomo is also Zenón's congenial partner on his album "El arte del Bolero," which was released in 2021 and will now be presented live at the Vienna Konzerthaus: Famous boleros and other hits from the "Great Latin American Songbook" are transformed into instrumental pieces that revive the individual voices of singers like Ismael Rivera or Cheo Feliciano in Zenón's saxophone.
