Russian mini-operas

Asmik Grigorian's international breakthrough came at the 2018 Salzburg Festival, when she made her sensational role debut as Salome in Romeo Castellucci's production. This breakthrough has changed a lot in the life of the Lithuanian-born soprano: »I no longer have to fight for my freedom. All my life I have fought to be who I am; to say what I think; to perform how I want; to drink what I want, whatever. I'm still the same. The difference is: today I don't have to fight for it. [...] That's a kind of power that protects my freedom. And freedom is substantial for me. Without freedom, I can't create anything.«
The powerful singer can now be experienced at the Wiener Konzerthaus with an extraordinary program: Romances by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky and Sergei Rachmaninoff. »Most of Rachmaninoff's romances really call for operatic power. In fact, he wrote 'mini-operas' that last only a few minutes«, Asmik Grigorian sums up.
