Flying carpet to the stars
Founded in 1996 by graduates of the Conservatoire de Paris, Quatuor Diotima has devoted itself - by no means exclusively, but to a large extent - to modern and contemporary music and is today one of the most sought-after string quartets in the world. At the center of the fifth of the 18 concerts in the portrait series with which the Wiener Konzerthaus is celebrating the 100th anniversary of György Ligeti's birth this season, the ensemble will perform the jubilarian's 2nd String Quartet, composed in 1968 and undoubtedly one of the major works of quartet literature from the second half of the 20th century. This will be flanked by the Austrian premiere of the genre piece »Sternenstill« by Swedish composer Lisa Streich and the premiere of a capital new string quartet movement by Christian Ofenbauer, a majestically floating carpet of the most delicate sounds.
