If the Italian conductor Riccardo Chailly celebrated his 70th birthday in February 2023, the 210th birthday of Giuseppe Verdi will be commemorated in October 2023. The Wiener Konzerthaus will also take a bow to the great opera composer at the start of its 111th season. In their guest appearance, the orchestra and chorus of La Scala in Milan, conducted by their music director Riccardo Chailly, will present a touring project entirely dedicated to Verdi. The concert will feature overtures, choruses and ballets from eight Verdi operas spanning some three decades: The programmatic arc ranges from »Nabucco« (1842) to »Aida« (1871). Of course, »classics« such as the Prisoners' Chorus from »Nabucco«, »O Signore, dal tetto natìo« from »I Lombardi«, the Gypsy Chorus from »Il trovatore« or the triumphant »Gloria all'Egitto, ad Iside« from »Aida« will not be missing. Look forward to a season opener with unforgettable melodies!
