In this prolonged period of musical silence – imposed by the government’s ban on public events during the Covid 19 pandemic, which has now lasted for more than three months – the Wiener Konzerthausgesellschaft endeavours to keep in touch with its audience by bringing music directly to people’s living rooms. The main focus of this initiative lies on demonstrating the great diversity of musical genres, and at the same time affording young musicians an opportunity to present themselves to the public. With “konzertzuhaus” (“concertathome”), the Wiener Konzerthausgesellschaft has created a platform which has established itself within a very short period of time, already registering several hundred thousand hits. Thus we hope that the successful series of “living room concerts” with the Vienna Symphonic will continue to lure a great number of people to their screens.
In this context, the young Lithuanian artist Giedrė Šlekytė will present herself – not just as conductor of the Vienna Symphonic, but she will also be invited to join Alex Brüggemann in discussing Schubert’s “Unfinished” Symphony and to talk about her career and her collaboration with the orchestra.
This special format is designed to create a high level of intimacy between artist and spectator. The unusual setting of a comfortable seating area positioned directly on stage makes for a cosy ambiance in which the artist seemingly becomes a guest at the viewer’s private home, giving insights into her artistic personality.
As Giedrė Šlekytė is also scheduled to conduct the Camerata Salzburg as part of the digital Mozart Week in Salzburg this January, the young artist will be able to attract the attention of music lovers and the media on two separate occasions – despite the current ban on public performances.
