A Digital Portrait
Originally, the Simply Quartet had planned to participate in the ARD competition, thus greatly increasing media coverage of its activities, marking a further conspicuous milestone in the ensemble’s artistic development. But as the competition had to be postponed, the Wiener Konzerthaus decided to support the musicians, who have currently reached a point in their careers at which public attention is particularly important in order to elicit the interest of international agencies, promoters and audiences, by devising a comprehensive media portrait in cooperation with the artists. The project started in December 2020 with a short video film created for the Wiener Konzerthaus’s Advent calendar and will be continued with a concert broadcast in the context of the streaming format „konzertzuhaus“ (concertathome). This format, which is being presented on a special platform created by the Wiener Konzerthaus, was developed specifically in order to support young artists during lockdown in giving them a prominent online visibility. In the context of the digital theme week devoted to chamber music, a professional recording of the quartet’s performance will be produced and later streamed on various channels, available to the audience. Accompanying activities will include filmed interviews, a “making-of” documentary, etc. In addition, the rehearsal process involving a newly commissioned work will be recorded. Julia Lacherstorfer was invited to write a string quartet for the ensemble; in the course of this project, the joint development of this composition will be documented on film. The artists will be entitled to make use of this material in future to increase their media presence and to be able to attract attention in times of limited performing opportunities.
