Viennese music and Finnish dreamscapes

Two ensembles with contemporary interpretations of the folk music of their respective homelands: this concert takes you into Viennese and West Finnish realms.

Viennese music with virtuosity

Monika and Peter Uhler as well as Maria and Helmut Stippich revive familiar Schrammel sounds in chamber music folk music from Vienna. The two married couples devote themselves in particular to the work of the brothers Karl and Josef Mikulas at the beginning of the 20th century. The masterful bravura pieces by Josef Mikulas form the core of their repertoire. They expand this with new compositions and arrangements.

Finnfolk crossover

The coat of arms of the Finnish municipality of Kaustinen is adorned with a golden violin. In 2001, the violin playing tradition of this region was included in the list of intangible world cultural heritage. Every year, the famous Kaustinen Folk Music Festival takes place here in the center of Finnish folk music. And it was also in Kaustinen that a group of young folk enthusiasts founded the band Frigg 25 years ago. Since then, Frigg has been inspiring audiences internationally with its unmistakable sound. The band combines traditional Nordic sounds with bluegrass, Balkan rhythms and classical elements. Their latest (now twelfth!) album is entitled »Dreamscape« and takes listeners on a dream journey through the Finnish spring landscape.
