Mergers
First awakening, maturing, blissful early love, solace in nature and warlike battles: Franz Liszt sets all these human stages to music in his »Préludes«, whereby they merge directly into one another, merging into a single movement.
Compositions for two pianos
The predecessor for this concept of several movements in one was Liszt's »Grand Concert Solo«, a work of which he made a version for two pianos, as he did for the »Préludes«. Dmitri Shostakovich also composed only a single movement for his Concertino for two pianos, written around a hundred years later.
Master and pupil in the piano duo
In addition to these highly virtuoso works for four hands, the outstanding piano duo, consisting of Sophie Pacini and her mentor Martha Argerich, dedicate themselves to variation movements by Johannes Brahms and Robert Schumann. The audience at the Wiener Konzerthaus has already been able to admire their intimate artistic connection on two occasions.
