The world behind the world: four colourful symphonic works
Wagner and Strauss, Samy Moussa and Erkki-Sven Tüür: The ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra performs four colourful works under Markus Poschner. The future RSO Principal Conductor sees a close relationship between these works.
Bubbling and clear sounds
They all represent a kind of self-exploration, they are about the world behind the world. For him, Samy Moussa's »Elysium« has something of Venetian opulence with its bubbling sounds. This is in stark contrast to Erkki-Sven Tüür's »Lux Stellarum«, which will be performed by Emmanuel Pahud. This flute concerto, which visualises the Milky Way, captivates with its cool clarity.
Journey into the self
In the second half of the concert, the overture to Wagner's »Parsifal«, a great, purifying journey into the self, is juxtaposed with »Death and Transfiguration«. In this late work by Richard Strauss, a dying hero looks back on his life.
