Presented by Wiener Konzerthausgesellschaft

Transatlantic friendship

When the long-established Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and its Austrian chief conductor Manfred Honeck open the 2024/25 Konzerthaus season, the line-up and program underline the transatlantic friendship: the concert opens with the brilliant short fanfare »Short Ride in a Fast Machine« by John Adams, which the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra premiered in 1986. The main work of the evening is the now undisputedly popular 1st Symphony by Gustav Mahler, whose glorious career as a conductor came to an end in the USA. The soloist in Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's Violin Concerto will be world star Anne-Sophie Mutter.
