Surprise, surprise!
The Company of Music and Johannes Hiemetsberger offer a fascinating panorama of contemporary vocal music from and about America to open the cycle under the motto »Surprise, America!«. You can look forward to excerpts from the »Partita« for eight voices by Pulitzer Prize winner Caroline Shaw and from John Cage's »Song Books«, which explore the boundaries of traditional notation, as well as the touching piece »Let me breathe«, in which the American composer and pianist Julie Wolf reflects on social issues. There will also be the work »Proverb« by minimal music pioneer Steve Reich and - as a further sonic surprise - a brand new composition by Austrian composer Flora Marlene Geißelbrecht, commissioned by the Company of Music.
