The power of music

Visitors to »Resonanzen« are familiar with him: Michele Pasotti, the director of la fonte musica. The name of the ensemble, which includes the word »source«, was chosen deliberately, as the trained lutenist is one of the most knowledgeable in the field of early music. He always consults the sources for his interpretations. The fact that the result sounds anything but dusty, but rather brings the music of past eras to life, was impressively demonstrated in the performance of the Marienvesper in the Great Hall in October 2022. Now Michele Pasotti, together with his ensemble and outstanding singers, including baritone Bauro Borgioni and sopranos Anna Piroli, Monica Piccinini and Francesca Cassinari, brings the opera's founding work, Monteverdi's Orfeo, to life. In it, the Thracian hero Orpheus himself softens the ferryman to the underworld with his song accompanied by the lyre. In the prologue, the allegory of music aptly proclaims: »I am the music that is able to soothe every troubled heart with its sweet sounds and to inflame even the coldest of minds, sometimes with sublime anger, sometimes with love.«
