Mahlerian morning

The matinee of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Petr Popelka offers an ideal setting for those who want to start the Sunday with a musical highlight: in addition to Mozart's »Prague Symphony«, the program includes music by Gustav Mahler: his 4th Symphony will be performed. The work marks a special point in Mahler's oeuvre: it is the last symphony of his early creative phase and is notable for its clarity and - for Mahler - unusual brevity. The symphony culminates in a final movement that takes the audience into a childlike idea of »heaven«. Soprano Hera Hyesang Park sings the song »Das himmlische Leben« from the collection »Des Knaben Wunderhorn«.
