Horváth: The eternal philistine

A satire of the New Objectivity: Horváth satirizes the type of the »modern philistine« in his social satire of the interwar period. The main character is the fraudulent car salesman Alfons, who tries to be an upstart through his liaisons with rich women. Stefanie Dvorak reads from Horváth's first novel, while pianist Adela Liculescu presents works ranging from Viennese Classicism and Romanticism to new music.
