Resurrection with Mahler
Mahler's Second, the so-called »Resurrection Symphony«, is on the program of a concert by the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra under the direction of its chief conductor Marin Alsop. The theme here is God's love for his image-bearing creatures and their love for him. For the first time in his symphonies, Mahler allows the human voice to be heard: »I am from God and want to return to God!«, says the song »Urlicht«, which precedes the final movement, and continues: »The good Lord will give me a little light [...]!« In the end, there is the certainty of resurrection - a musical triumph!
