Convincing interpretations

The Sächsische Staatskapelle makes a guest appearance with Tugan Sokhiev conducting - the program includes Anton Bruckner's 7th Symphony, which the composer dedicated to the »Fairytale King« Ludwig II. Sol Gabetta is also known for her fairytale interpretations and will be dedicating herself to Shostakovich's virtuoso 1st Cello Concerto: »I have had a lot of experience with this work, playing it with many orchestras and in various performance situations«, reports the Argentinian cellist. »If you perform a repertoire piece often, you can simply play it confidently and well - that doesn't interest me at all. If I don't have anything special to offer at the moment, then I don't play a piece for a while. I see if new editions come out, if I need to change something. Over the years, with experience, the piece becomes something of my own.
I distance myself from well-known interpretations, even from performers for whom it was written, such as Mstislav Rostropovich in the case of Shostakovich. Only then can I find a true interpretation for myself. [...] If you are convinced of an interpretation, it is very well received, no matter how it is.«
