Sonata triad

Audience favorite Elisabeth Leonskaja has already performed Beethoven's last three piano sonatas several times, although she has worked on the works for different lengths of time: »I played the E major Sonata (op. 109) as a teenager«, the pianist said in an interview (»Die Presse«). »I then rehearsed Opus 111 quite soon and performed it again and again as a single, large work in other program contexts. However, I only learned the middle sonata (op. 110) when the idea of performing the sonatas as a coherent whole was born.« And that is exactly what Leonskaja dares to do on May 25: she will interpret Beethoven's last »Sonata Triad«, the conclusion of what Hans von Bülow once described as the »New Testament« of piano literature - three works in which the otherwise often so brusque Beethoven shows himself from a more lyrical side.
