The epitome of romanticism

Raphaël Pichon began his career as a countertenor, today our portrait artist of the season is a sought-after conductor. Bach changed his life, he once said in an interview. However, Pichon's roots in early music did not stop there. Although the works of Bach, Lully, Rameau and Monteverdi form a focal point of his work, his witty programs now extend into the early modern period. On the podium of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, he devotes himself to well-known Romantic compositions: alongside Wagner's Siegfried Idyll, Pichon performs Mendelssohn's »Scottish«, the epitome of the Romantic symphony. Schubert is not to be missed here either: The enigmatic »Unfinished« and selected lieder are heard in the first part of the concert. The singer is baritone Stéphane Degout.
