Great piano art with a timpani roll
It begins with a tutti forte: Mozart's Piano Concerto in C major K 503. He did not write a longer concerto movement as its opening. In the same year, 1786, Mozart composed another large piano concerto, K 491, this time in C minor. You can hear these two outstanding compositions by the Viennese classic in a concert by the Cappella Andrea Barca, which was founded 25 years ago by Sir András Schiff especially for a complete performance of Mozart's piano concertos and consists of soloists and chamber musicians. »What I do as a conductor is an extension of chamber music; the Cappella is a chamber music ensemble of excellent soloists«, explains Schiff, who is both soloist and conductor of the concert. Time and again, the orchestra returns to its original repertoire, as in this concert. In addition to Mozart's two piano concertos, Joseph Haydn's symphony »Mit dem Paukenwirbel« will be performed.
