Alpine sound with Blue Note

With »Alpine Aspects«, Wolfgang Puschnig fuses jazz with Austrian folk music and brings Alpine folklore into the sound of the present. Hardly anyone has done as much for Austrian jazz as the saxophonist and flautist from Carinthia. With the »Alpine Aspects« project, which he launched back in the 1990s, he created one of the most original and important Austrian jazz productions and a milestone in European jazz. He shows how well Alpine folk tunes and funk, flugelhorn and electric bass, march and jazz rhythms go together in his interplay with companions such as Jamaaladeen Tacuma and various Austrian formations such as the Mostviertler Birnbeitler. »Cosmopolitanism without forgetting his origins. There are few who manage this aesthetic balancing act as credibly and disarmingly sensual as Wolfgang Puschnig«, says Andreas Felber, head of the Ö1 jazz editorial team.
