tritsch tritsch

»Yes, Strauss, he really is our Waltz King«, said Richard Wagner about his colleague Johann Strauss Sohn, giving him the famous nickname. Strauss was a pop star in his day, and his 500 or so waltzes, polkas and marches conquered the globe. Alongside Wagner, Johannes Brahms, Giuseppe Verdi and Arnold Schönberg paid tribute to his inventiveness and the lightness of his music. In the anniversary year in which we celebrate Strauss' 200th birthday, the composer Wolfgang Mitterer, a virtuoso of charging, reinterpreting and dissecting, dedicates a composition to him, for which he takes up 19 hits and explores the ambiguity of the music using striking samples from the keyboard. The world premiere of this instrumental firework to sing, watch and dance along to by Klangforum Wien will be conducted by Elena Schwarz, who already performed works by György Ligeti at the Wiener Konzerthaus in 2023.
