Around the world
In his iconic ballet »Appalachian Spring«, written in 1943/44 for the pioneering choreographer and dancer Martha Graham, the New Yorker Aaron Copland set the beauty of American nature to music. Australian composer Brett Dean also devoted himself to the subject of flora and fauna and their destruction. In his »Fire music«, he refers to »Black Saturday« in 2009 - Australia's biggest fire disaster. Dean explored controlled forest fires and the ritual significance of fire for the Aborigines. Sergei Rachmaninoff's second piano concerto, which has also found its way into film and pop culture, is characterized by passionate virtuosity. The soloist is 20-year-old South Korean pianist Yunchan Lim. He is making his Konzerthaus debut on this evening and will be performing Bach's »Goldberg Variations« in April.
