Schnitzler: Play at dawn
An excursion into Viennese modernism with Dörte Lyssewski: Schnitzler's
story about a lieutenant addicted to gambling combines Eros and
Thanatos. The devil almost seems to have a hand in it: »Luck in love -
bad luck in gambling« (and vice versa) suggests an old proverb. In
Schnitzler's story, Lieutenant Wilhelm Kasda meets a fate through a game
of chance and erotic entanglements that comes to a dramatic head within
48 hours. The violinist Maria Ioudenitch, who is also a guest in the
»Great Talent« cycle, will provide the musical accompaniment.
