»Welt, gute Nacht« – Innigkeit und Trost
In Germany, shaken by the Thirty Years' War, people sought support in faith - and in music. Inspired by pietism, simple songs of consolation were written. These heartfelt works are at the centre of the concert by Raphaël Pichon, his ensemble Pygmalion and an outstanding group of singers. The radiant vocal music by Johann Sebastian Bach, Dietrich Buxtehude, Heinrich Schütz and their contemporaries unfolds its effect many times more intensely thanks to the special spatial performance: the musicians play in the centre of the Great Hall, surrounded by the audience - an impressive journey through the night and daylight of the Baroque!
