Aventures
2 Concerts in the Mozart-Saal
2 Concerts in the Schubert-Saal
With »Aventures«, the Wiener Konzerthaus is launching a new format dedicated to masterpieces of »classical modernism«. In the aftermath of Pierre Boulez's 100th birthday, Anton Gerzenberg interprets his furious 2nd Piano Sonata in the context of older pieces from the tradition leading to Boulez. We pay tribute to Friedrich Cerha on the 100th anniversary of his birth: several formations create a chamber music evening in a class of its own along with a small but fine vocal section. Vocal and chamber music works by Boulez's former teacher Olivier Messiaen are the focus of the two other concerts: Barbara Hannigan and Bertrand Chamayou will present his song cycle »Chants de terre et de ciel«, which can be heard for the first time at the Wiener Konzerthaus. And his popular »Quatuor pour la fin du Temps« will also be performed at the end of the cycle in a truly luxurious setting with Jörg Widmann, Isabelle Faust, Jean-Guihen Queyras and Pierre-Laurent Aimard.
