Belcea & Ébène
5 Concerts in the Mozart-Saal
Room plan in 6 categories (Mozart-Saal)
On three evenings in the »Belcea & Ébène« cycle, we are expecting guests who will expand the quartet into a quintet: the versatile British clarinettist Julian Bliss will make his debut at the Wiener Konzerthaus; with the Quatuor Ébène, he will perform the clarinet quintet with which Johannes Brahms bid farewell to chamber music in 1891. Like Mozart before him, Brahms also wrote important string quintets. The Belcea Quartet and violist Tabea Zimmermann perform what are probably the most popular pieces of this kind by these two composers at the end of the cycle. In between, the Belcea Quartet and Yulianna Avdeeva will dedicate themselves to the piano quintet by the Polish-Soviet composer Mieczysław Weinberg. In addition to these quintets, the quartet repertoire from Haydn and Mozart to Mendelssohn, Brahms, Debussy, Ravel, Webern and Britten through to a new piece by Brett Dean will certainly not be neglected.
