Fascinatingly subtle

Whether with classical pieces, original compositions or jazz standards, Johanna Summer always manages to develop a broad, dynamic narrative with her improvisations, sometimes tender and fragile, sometimes full of tension, rhythmically gripping or irresistibly melodic. At the same time, you never get the impression that she is interested in firing off as many ideas as possible or presenting herself as a virtuoso. Everything happens in the spirit of musical storytelling, with an extremely mature, far-sighted eye for dramaturgy, dynamics, tension and atmosphere.
The Süddeutsche Zeitung finds this simply »a small sensation«, the classical music magazine Fono Forum »fascinatingly subtle«, and Jazz thing states: »a pianist with a character all of her own, virtuoso, subtle and delicate«. Jazz, classical music and free playing - Johanna Summer creates her very own music from the moment, and it is an experience to listen to her. The Viennese audience first had the opportunity to do so at the »Gemischter Satz« of 2024. Together with saxophone shooting star Jakob Manz, she now presents the program of their new album »Cameo«.
