Khatia Buniatishvili, a great musical storyteller

When Khatia Buniatishvili made her debut at New York's Carnegie Hall and Vienna's Konzerthaus, she was just 21 years old. That was in 2008, at an event at the Vienna Konzerthaus that combined music and literature. The Georgian-French pianist's programs also show a sense of good storytelling when they revolve entirely around her »motherland« of music. »Labyrinth« is the title of her most recent solo CD, in which she makes Bach, Scarlatti, Chopin, Glass and even Cage sound as if they are all part of a harmonious whole. »Motherland« was the title of a recording in which she declared the musical realms of Bach, Mendelssohn, Brahms, but also Ligeti and Pärt to be her homeland. A new venture is on the agenda for the upcoming recital: Buniatishvili now focuses on the core piano disciplines of songfulness, virtuosity and brilliance in the works of Schubert, Chopin, Liszt, but also on the classical elegance of Mozart. We look forward to another finely spun journey through time, crowned by the pianistic passion of a great musical storyteller.
